From Low to High in Minutes!

Well, the highly anticipated appointment with the surgeon is behind me!

When the x-ray first came up on the screen, my heart sank and the tears started flowing.  All I saw was the large gap in my tibia still sitting {not so} pretty.

Good thing for me, I'm not an x-ray tech!

The PA came in, took one look and declared that I was healing beautifully!  It was totally shocking to me.  That does not look like progress to me!  We talked a bit and he decided I was a half-glass-empty kind a gal, ha!  I have to admit that he hit the mark on my attitude over the last few weeks.  It is so incredibly difficult to be "grounded".  I'm finding it really hard to keep my spirits up without my running outlet.

My wait might finally be coming to an end, though!  My favorite PA gave me the green light to attempt to jog a half-mile!  I'm not sure I'm ready for it until I'm no longer limping but it is really tempting to give it a try.  I seriously considered it last night but I had done a lot of walking in the evening and I'm trying to heed his warnings about going from zero to sixty!

So, all in all, good news for me!  My next follow-up was originally in three months but, as I was walking out the door, said favorite PA came running behind me and said he changed his mind to six weeks.  His reason?  He didn't trust that I wouldn't try to run full-throttle on it and he wanted to see what it looked like after six weeks of running :)  I really don't mind an earlier appointment because I want to see my progress too!

  4. Oh, Kelly, the thought of you running just yet makes me very nerveous. I know, sound like a Mother doesn't it? But, just do be very, very careful. Maybe you should just speed walk for a while.

I am very thrilled at the report and know that was a "lifter of your spirits" for sure.

    Happy, happy for you!

  6. Kelly, I am so happy for you. I can say that the x-ray didn't look all that great to me either. Just goes to show we were not blessed with the medical eyes. I'll be praying that as you begin to run, God continues to bring healing. I can't wait to hear about your running!
