One of the best unexpected blessings that came from my accident was a visit from my brother and his wife.
My sister-in-law, Erin, is an Occupational Therapist and was able to help me a lot as well as offer tons of advice on my recovery/rehab. I will forever be grateful for her help and think it is so cool that she was able to put her hard earned degrees to good use on me!
The best part of their visit, however, was that our kids got to enjoy time with their aunt and uncle! It is extremely hard having my brother living out of state. I really, really, really dislike it and hope his career brings him back home at some point. It's not realistic right now and we're so proud of how hard he's worked to get where he's at career-wise but it doesn't make me any happier about having him far away :(
Aunt Erin and Uncle Kyle made sure that Noah and Noelle didn't miss their Saturday morning visit to the donut shop!
The fact that Noelle went willingly in the car with them is a major milestone for us! The last time they were home (July) she had just begun to warm up to them but this visit was the one that put her over the edge. She loves her Uncle Kyle and I loved seeing them bond this visit! Noah is already very close with Uncle Kyle and saw him a lot more when he was Noelle's age because he was still getting his PhD close to home at that time. It makes me a little (okay, more like a lot) sad that Noelle doesn't get to spend as much time with him at this age!
Uncle Kyle and Aunt Erin even brought them to Target! I love this picture that Aunt Erin captured:
It's like a giant walking with two little people! Oh yeah, that's exactly what it is!
Uncle Kyle watched the entire UF vs. Kentucky football game sitting in my wheelchair in my room. I sat it in the other night while a group of friends were visiting and it was SO uncomfortable. I don't know how he did it. I appreciated the company, though, and Noelle had a lot of fun pushing him around and playing with him in general!
It's a good thing he was happy in the wheelchair because the bed was FULL! Here is where I have spent the last TEN days and will be for the foreseeable future:
This last picture that Aunt Erin sent me is totally random but I adore the smile on Noelle's face and the moose hat on my mom is classic. Hopefully, none of her students stumble across my blog :)
Thank you Uncle Kyle and Aunt Erin for driving more than seven hours each way and spending the weekend with us. This accident has been horrible to recover from but there have been a lot of blessings in our lives at the same time. They make my recovery a little bit easier.
We LOVE our families!

I'm so glad you got to spend the weekend with family and that the kids had so much fun loving on their Uncle and Aunt. Like you said, an unexpected (and awesome) blessing.
ReplyDeleteSo glad we could come!! I still have to blog about our visit but haven't had the energy because of the new job! Can't wait to hear you're 50% weight bearing...I'm sure it'll be right around the corner!!
ReplyDeleteOh,know this family visit was so good "for what ails you." Try to keep looking at the light at the end of the tunnel and just use this time for a lot of reflecting and thanksgiving (and I know you are). Still sends shivers up my spine thinking about what could have happened in this accident. Thank God for His shield of protection over you. Hugs to you!
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice to have those you love and those who love you there when you are not feeling your best. I hope your recovery continues to go quickly and smoothly!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing. Being nosey I of course had to jump over to Erin's blog as well. I love the photo of Noelle smiling on her blog. Noelle's smile could light up a room. I also love the photo of Uncle Kyle with the kiddos in the store. I am so happy they were able to come down and help so you could recover.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a great weekend!
That was such a thoughtful comment you left for me today! Thanks for reaching out with such warmth at a time that must offer a great deal of difficulty for you.
ReplyDeleteYou will run again. You've got that kind of heart and attitude that will make it so.
Best wishes in your recovery.
What a blessing to have family around! It looks like everyone had so much fun :)
